14 Percent of Foods in Seribu islands Are Dangerous

Jakarta Drug and Food Monitoring Agency (BPOM) did monitoring fast food and snack in six residential islands that spread in Seribu Islands over two days. As a result, 14 percent of food in stalls, school and street vendors are positively containing hazardous substances.

"From sample results from six islands, 14 percent of foods are containing hazardous substances," said Head of Jakarta BPOM, Dewi Prawitasari, Tuesday (4/19).

Prawitasari explains 14 percent of dangerous food was detected after her side took 116 food samples from such islands. They are Panggang, Pramuka, Untung Jawa, Tidung, Pari and Tidung. From these islands, most dangerous food is found in Pramuka Island.

"The food contains formalin, borax and dye or rhodamin B," he told.

She also found the unlicensed Food Household Industry (IRTP) at the same place. Even there are also found unlicensed stores and stalls.

"Many did not meet the requirements in terms of hygiene or sanitation, do not have a label and licensing," she disclosed.
